Funny Games

Okay next up is both the Funny Games (Germany) 1997 and U.S. 2007:

- First thought -
 (U.S.) "Right, ... I don't know what to expect"
 (Ger.) "Again ... brilliant movie, can't wait to feel the tension"

 - Actual movie(s) -
Two psychopathic young men take a family hostage in their cabin. (imdb)

So I watched them in the wrong order, first the American version
then the German one. It's not really a big problem, but I just didn't
know there was an earlier version untill recently. Today was a good
day to watch the 1997 version, and my god... it's exactly the same.
 I fell in love with the power of this movie while watching the
American version, and I just think it does the same as the other one.

I can understand why people dislike the remake of a movie that
isn't even that old. But I think the director just wanted to get
a bigger audience for this brilliant story. In any way.. I was sold while
watching the American, so nothing could spoil that.

This isn't actually a horror movie but more drama, crime or thriller.
I just wanted to share this as the brilliant movie it is. So watch
the original or the American, ... I really don't care... just watch it!

Although I feel the pressure to add that a foreign language allmost
never fails to add extras to a movie.

(This movie is not what I call 'Scary' or 'Bloody' it's more emotionally
thrilling. Can't really explain. So I will only give overall scores.)

The Uninvited

Okay so yesterday I didn't only watch 'The Strangers' but also
two other movies. Both starring Emily Browning.
She is a super pretty girl, and I love to see her act.
Only one of them was a horror the other was a drama
(Sleeping Beauty). So here goes:

About  'The Uninvited' :

- First thought -
"Yay! Emily Browning!"

- Actual Movie -
A girl loses her mother in an 'accidental' fire and gets sent to a
mental institution. When she returns she starts to suspect
her stepmom actually being responsible for it. So she and her sister
will try and find proof of this matter while receiving clues through
ghosts and visions.

I wont spoil anything of the good parts cause the movie
is really worth watching on a spooky girls night. It might be a
little over the top on the original horror scares but it doesn't
harm the tense atmosphere. I love how the story changes your
opinion while watching it. These kind of mystery stories are
most of the time not part of my favourites. But this one is an
exeption.

Definatly a movie worth watching as said before on a girlsnight.
Not really a tough guy thing. Anyways, enjoy!

The Strangers

At first I want to tell you that trailers are not allways a good thing.
So added to that, I don't watch any trailers unless the title and
pictures really don't speak to me.

So today 'The Strangers' was on my horrorlist.:

- First thought -
"Oh shit not another haunted house movie"


- Actual movie -
Yes! Not haunted!... but oh shit these kids must be bored!   
That instantly reminded me of 'Funny Games U.S.'
I definatly like movies that are more likely to actually happen,
so 'The Strangers' actually being inspired (not based!) on facts
made that extra nice.

The movie begins as a couple is getting back from a wedding and being on
the way to their holiday home. This place is in the middle of nowhere (no
shit!) and will soon be the perfect place for 3 strangers to invade their lives.

That's actually about the shortest description I can give you without
spoiling. I think the movie has a good story and nice visuals, the acting
is good.
You can scare someone by being unpredictable and they definatly achieved
that in the beginning. But after a while it's too much of the same.
The masks are an absolute add to the dark and scary mood.
Oh! And If you like to yell at the actors while watching a horror, you're good here.
They make stupid decisions wich makes you want to hit them over the head.
But ofcourse that's the whole point of giving opportunity to the bad guys.
In the end I was a bit dissapoited but I can only hope you won't agree.
